Duties

Help
  • Provide general surveillance of activities and document quality assurance activities for the SM-1A Decommissioning project.
  • Review and study radiation related documents to assure completeness and compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Utilize a practical working knowledge of technical work primarily in support of the SM-1A Radiation Control program.
  • Communicate with contractors, users, sponsors, outside reviewers, representatives of base commanders, or others to ensure there is a full understanding of the scope of work for the technical aspect of the SM-1A Radiation Control program.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must have completed, or successfully complete, the OSHA-mandated 40-hour training for hazardous waste site operations and maintain an annual refresher.
  • Incumbent must pass physical for performing work in level "C" personal protection and maintain active participation in the Corps of Engineers medical surveillance program as mandated by OSHA.
  • Employee must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be willing to travel up to 50% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Education: A. Bachelor's degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

OR

B. A combination of education and experience that furnished-- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A.


Specialized experience: Must meet one year of specialized experience, experience include: 1) Providing technical health physics expertise in all areas; 2) Reviewing established procedures to assure proper precautions are prescribed for the safety and health of employees and recommend changes when necessary; and 3) Application of health physics principals to the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites.
